Why Biomass

Biomass is a renewable, low carbon fuel that is widely

available thoughout the UK.

There are a number of benefits in using biomass

The carbon released into the atmosphere as CO2 when burning biomass fuel is the same amount that trees absorb during their lifetime – making the process carbon neutral. Using biomass fuel allows businesses to reduce their carbon emissions and reduce future carbon taxes. It also lowers dependence on fossil fuels and the risks associated with spiralling costs and supply.

Benefits to Your Community:- Reduction of CO2, a major contributor             to greenhouse gas emissions Increases our security of energy supply Creates employment through the supply chain Allows us to meet our obligation to 2020 & 2050             CO2 reduction targets
Benefits to Your home or business:- Reduction in heating bills Less exposure to fluctuating fuel prices Increased security for energy fuel supply A guaranteed renewable heat incentive
The majority of biomass boilers are designed to burn wood chip with a maximum moisture content. This moisture content can vary but is most typically at 35%. (EN ISO 17225-4)
Wood pellets are a dense, convenient form of wood fuel that burn well in purpose built stoves and boilers. They are now a common sustainable fuel in the UK and in many European countries. Wood pellets for household and commercial application can be stated in three different classes A1, A2 and B. The property class A1 for wood pellets represents virgin woods and chemically untreated wood residues low in ash and nitrogen content. Fuels with slightly higher ash content and nitrogen content fall within A2.
The majority of domestic biomass boilers are designed to burn wood pellets with a maximum moisture content. This moisture content can vary but is most typically at 8 - 10%. (EN ISO 17225-2)
Log-burning stoves and boilers have to be filled with wood by hand and require considerably more work. You will need a lot of logs to heat a whole house, but they can be cheaper than pellets if you have a good local supply.

Biomass offers up to 60% reduction on heating costs compared to oil and up to 70% return on investment from RHI for non- domestic applications. This guaranteed payment provides a payback period of between two and five years, so biomass boiler systems pay for themselves within a relatively short period of time, meaning that you start to make immediate savings and earn money quickly.
